13 Mar5 Most Common Pregnancy Myths – Debunked

Like most other things in life, pregnancy has its own set to myths. What makes a myth a myth? The truth that eventually debunks it. Here are the 5 most common pregnancy myths – debunked.

Myth # 1
Pregnancy gives a woman a certain natural beautiful glow

If you’ve been airbrushed onto the cover of Pregnancy Weekly maybe this wouldn’t be a myth. However, it is. It’s true that a woman’s hormones go into overdrive when they are with-child, but it’s rare to find a woman who suddenly goes from pretty to naturally gorgeous when she becomes pregnant. That’s not to say that with a little extra pampering and tender-loving care she can’t magnify the beauty she already possesses. It just doesn’t have anything to do with being pregnant.

Myth # 2
The average woman gains 25-35 pounds during pregnancy

Sorry ladies. The amount of weight you gain can’t be calculated; not even as an average. You’ll gain as much weight as your body feels it needs to in order to keep your baby nourished, and give you the strength to carry her. These figures are a targeted weight gain amount the medical community uses, but they aren’t realistic. The problem with statistics is that only two or three thousand candidates are used to come up with them. How can a group of 2 -3 thousand women give an accurate number that represents millions of women from all over the globe? Just do your best to eat well, and stay active. The last thing you should be doing is jumping on and off the scale. You’ll get enough of that at your doctor visits.

Myth # 3
Increased levels of hormones will make you friskier

Ha! Maybe in the minds of the brilliant men who must have created this myth. The truth is your raging hormones are more likely to make you a basket case who can’t decide if she wants to laugh, scream or cry. Not to worry, there is no wrong choice when you’re pregnant. Laugh, scream or cry. Whatever you’re feeling at the moment is appropriate.

Myth # 4
Men will find you sexy

As sad as this is, the only thing men will find sexy about you is your enlarged breasts. Let’s face it, men are primal, and are attracted to looks. Not all men feel this way, but it’s safe to say that the majority of the population does. The truth is, men more than likely admire you, and find you to be special. Unfortunately, this doesn’t equate out to sexy.

Myth # 5
The pain of contractions isn’t so bad

Wrong! It’s bad, Ladies. That’s why they try to persuade you to take Lamaze classes so you can learn how to breathe through pain. The key word here is…pain. So if you decide that the pain is too much to bear, don’t let anyone lay a guilt trip on you that you should have a natural birth. You do what you feel you need to do. If that means taking medication for the pain, then so be it.
